Drum brakes are particularly popular for off-road vehicles<\/em><\/strong>, as the brake shoes are much easier to protect from dirt and dust. The brake shoes are directly responsible for the braking behaviour of the vehicle and therefore belong to the safety-relevant components in the vehicle<\/strong><\/em>. For this reason, they should be checked regularly and replaced immediately in case of damage or defects.<\/p>\n

1. First the car must be jacked up
\n– Important: Release the hand brake. The brake drum cannot be removed when the handbrake is in position.
\n2. Now loosen the wheel nuts and remove the wheels
\n3. Remove the cover flap but be careful doing so.
\n– Unscrew the axle nut – it is secured with a split pin.
\n– Remove axle nut and wheel bearing.
\n– Remove the brake drum.
\n– If the brake drum is stuck, release it with light blows.
\n– If necessary, loosen the resetter with a screwdriver.
\n– Remove the rubber covers on the braking plate.
\n– Loosen the lock with a screwdriver.
\n– Remove the brake shoe attachments.
\n– Remove the brake shoes.
\n– Clean all parts thoroughly (brake spray).
\n– Check the wheel brake cylinder for tightness.
\n– Install and secure new brake shoes.
\n– Now perform all steps in reverse order.
\n– Then replace the brake shoes on the other side.
\n– Lower the vehicle.
\n– Before starting, depress the brake pedal several times and build up brake pressure.
