Their particularly <strong><em>strong insulating effect against voltage surges and heat makes them a suitable material for extreme circumstances<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Special ceramic material is applied to brakes:<\/strong> a composite of carbon fibre and silicon carbide is the ideal mix for absorbing high friction energy. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, ceramic brakes are equipped with one or more components of this material, <strong>bringing advantages \u2013 as well as disadvantages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ideal against the fading effect<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><strong>A brake on a car functions through friction<\/strong><\/em>. A fixed carrier with lining is pressed against a rotating element, generating friction energy, thus reducing the driving energy. When something goes wrong, the brake disc is simply melted and cast anew. They can be shredded and used as an adding agent for the building industry. <em>However, the cheap recycling of scrap and rest material common in metal processing does not apply here<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the reasons why <strong><em>carbon-ceramic brake discs are so extremely expensive<\/em>. To put a figure on it:<\/strong> <em>a ceramic brake system can easily cost up to EUR 10.000 (\u00b1 \u00a38,800)<\/em>. This does not pay off even for luxury family cars. <strong>The standard installation<\/strong>, therefore, is reserved for<em> limousines, sports cars, professional racing cars, CIT vans<\/em>, and<strong> armoured vehicles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Keramische-Bremsbel\u00e4ge-7.jpg\" alt=\"carbon-cermaic brake discs weight reduction\" width=\"421\" height=\"282\"\/><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/electric-cars-1347\">The electric mobility<\/a>, however, could stimulate general application<\/em><\/strong>. They are installed in exactly the same way as traditional brake linings. The dreaded abrasion tends to leave a persistent dust film, which is hard to get rid of. Ceramic brake linings produce considerably less abrasion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All the more amazing<\/strong> is the cheap price of brake sets with ceramic brake linings. <em>Branded manufacturers offer prices for this solution which are hardly above those of traditional brake kits: an ATE brake set including brake disc, linings and accessory parts starts at ca. EUR 130 (\u00b1 \u00a3115)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This is by no means excessive for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/oem-car-parts-26\">an OEM quality product<\/a> from an established supplier<\/strong><\/em>. These low prices make it worthwhile considering the choice for this feature on occasion of the next brake maintenance.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Always choose innovation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Keramische-Bremsbel\u00e4ge-10.jpg\" alt=\"hybrid brake discs\" width=\"427\" height=\"258\"\/>The development of brake discs goes beyond the use of ceramics. <strong>The latest development is hybrid discs:<\/strong> <em>the traditional grey cast steel brake disc is riveted on an aluminium carrier<\/em>. Where excellent properties with regard to even wear and heat dissipation are required, hybrid brake discs offer the full performance.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mass is the word here:<\/strong> the simple, single brake discs are hardly used these days<\/em>. Now, the dual ventilated brake discs have become standard on the front axle.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Keramische-Bremsbel\u00e4ge-11.jpg\" alt=\"advantage of high performance brake discs\" \/>Unfortunately, <strong>the many advantages<\/strong> these innovative components offer \u2013 <em>such as improved heat dissipation and performance<\/em> \u2013 go hand in hand with added mass.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Nevertheless, this can be compensated for in other parts:<\/strong> where the heavy cast steel adds to the total weight of the car, hybrid brake discs have light aluminium<\/em>. The connecting part between brake ring and wheel hub is made of <em>light metal in high-performance brake discs<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of course, this is only a minor contribution to mass reduction<\/strong>. Still, as brake discs are a critical moving mass, every weight reduction is very welcome. A lightweight brake disc causes less imbalance, sparing the complex mechanism of the steering axle.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>There is no difference in quality:<\/strong> with respect to sturdiness, aluminium in the right alloy can now be compared to steel<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why not the entire disc in aluminium?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autopartspro.co.uk\/tips-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Keramische-Bremsbel\u00e4ge-12.jpg\" alt=\"Why not the entire brake disc in aluminium\" \/><strong><em>Constructing the entire brake disc of aluminium<\/em><\/strong> is not feasible for two reasons:<\/p>\n<table style=\"background-color: #f0ffff;\" width=\"446\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"446\">\n<em>&#8211; low melting point<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8211; not tough enough<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Aluminium melts <em>at 600\u00b0C<\/em>. A standard braking manoeuvre readily generates <em>over 1,000 \u00b0C<\/em> and therefore the light metal would fail after a few braking attempts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And what is more:<\/strong> aluminium is prone to abrasion. The wear is not acceptable even when braking carefully.
