Abrasion under control, longer life span with the CHAMPION oil filter
An oil filter is a small, though important wear part in the car. Its performance and quality have a decisive influence on the life span of an engine. Sufficient reason for always choosing a high-quality spare part, like for example a CHAMPION oil filter.
The oil circulation in the car
In two-stroke engines, as you will find them in motorcycles and lawn mowers, the engine is lubricated by the fuel-oil mixture. That is why you always see blue smoke coming out of these drives. In view of the discussion about the environmental impact it is only a matter of time until these old "rattlers" will be prohibited. In four-stroke engines, i.e. the traditional diesel or fuel aggregates the lubricant circulation is separated from the fuel circulation. Not only does this lower the lubricant consumption considerably, this system also prevents burnt oil from entering the environment. The oil circulates permanently in the engine between cilinder head and oil sump. It is moved by a mechanical oil pump and pressed through several channels and lines. Thus, it lubricates all moving parts in the engine so that there is no friction causing mutual damage. In addition to the lubricating effect the oil flow has cooling properties. It reaches places the cooling circuit cannot reach and thus contributes considerably to the operational safety of the engine.
Causes of wear for engine oil
Despite the use of high-grade oil and sparing the engine during driving the engine oil can only partly prevent abrasion. Especially in case of a cold start the lubricant is still in the oil sump and has yet to reach the upper parts of the engine. Camshaft and valves remain unlubricated for a couple of seconds until the oil flow reaches them. Another cause of wear in the engine comes from the combustion chambers. The inner walls of the cilinder are permanently lubricated by an oil film. Nevertheless a minor amount of exhaust mixes with the oil by way of the piston rings. The soot particles caused by the exhaust collect in the oil, turning it black. Over time, temperature changes and the increasing amount of abrasion particles and soot impair the lubricating qualities of the oil. Furthermore, the additives mixed in the oil gradually dissolve. Lubricating oil therefore has a limited life span. In order to guarantee the reliability of the oil for this period, lubricating oil is permanently filtered. To this end a high-grade oil filter is installed in the circulation. This oil filter must be able to catch as many particles as possible. Simultaneously it must guarantee the flow of the oil until the next replacement interval. The filter may never be the cause of a stagnating or even clogged circulation. An immediate serious engine damage would be the result.
Long engine life thanks to high-grade oil and oil filter
As there are considerable differences in quality of motor oil, there are oil filters of better and lesser quality. The problem with inferior oil filters is that the bad performance is only noticed very late or not at all. When camshafts get stuck, the inner walls of the cilinders show grooves, piston rings wear or the drive shaft bearings fail, bad lubrication is always the cause. Therefore only high quality components should be installed on occasion of oil change. This includes a quality filter, such as a CHAMPION oil filter.
CHAMPION oil filter – quality and experience
CHAMPION is a pioneer in the field of engine lubrication technology. The manufacturer has been an OEM supplier for the car industry for more than a century. Every product is soaked in its experience and tradition. Sufficient reason for relying on the CHAMPION oil filter. And what is more: despite its excellent reputation the products of this company always remain reasonable in price. CHAMPION oil filters are available at 8 EUR (±£7). This makes the purchase of cheap parts of dubious source and inadequate performance totally unnecessary.
