Dynamics and aesthetics thanks to the bumper grille The bumper grille is a component that is growing in popularity in the tuning scene. It closes large openings in the bumper on the front of the vehicle. Thus it sets interesting visual accents. Ready-to-install and universal bumper grilles can be purchased. The origin of the bumper grille The bumper grille originates from rally sports. It originally served to prevent whirled up dirt from making its way into the engine compartment. A whirling around rock can cause serious harm in highly strained vehicles and high-performance engines used in rallying. The sport origin of this design element is directly responsible for its popularity and success in the tuning scene. This inexpensive component can discreetly, yet effectively enhance a vehicle's appearance. Installation of a bumper grille The bumper grille, also referred to as front grille, can only be installed in the front bumper when it is removed from the vehicle. Ready-to-install bumper grilles are simply clipped or screwed in using the appropriate mounting kit. Universal bumper grilles, however, must first be adapted to perfectly fit the car. Yet, these solutions are usually significantly cheaper. Bumper grille durability A bumper grille's life highly depends on the driver's driving style and the material it is made of. High quality bumper grilles feature a welded and chromed design made of a steel frame with a metal grille. Low-cost solutions, however, consist of thin plastic. Naturally, these variants, if hit by stones or gravel, are much quicker to take damage than the variants made of metal. Universal grilles made of aluminum are a very low-priced compromise between very cheap plastic bumper grilles and ready-made chrome grilles. This soft metal is rust-free, easily malleable and powder coated in a wide color range. The bumper grille made of coated aluminum doesn't break as easily as the plastic variants. Thus, if working with a limited budget, an aluminum grille is recommended. Sensible combinations If an overhaul of the bumper is required, you can also add many further attachments in addition to the bumper grille. Oftentimes, these are already equipped with their own grilles. These complete solutions provide very clean results, which can be quickly installed. Today, these include, for example, optional curve lights, day driving lights, proximity sensors, front cameras or intakes for performance air filters. Universal air grilles can also be suitable for openings provided on the hood. Use of the same bumper grille on each and every opening helps achieve a particularly high-quality look. Another way of setting special accents is painting the grille and bumper in different colors. The combination of black and yellow or black and red creates a particularly dynamic progressive impression. Only use approved bumper grilles Oftentimes it is easily overlooked that the design of a front bumper does not merely comply with and serve optical aspects. The openings in the bumper are important for directing incoming air. Thus, the tasks of the bumper are many: Improving the ground traction, supplying air to the intake system or support the engine cooling are all facilitated by a clever bumper design. Yet, these effects can all be ruined by installing a bumper grille with a bad design or consisting of inappropriate material. Therefore, use of simple perforated plates or self-manufactured solutions is not allowed for this purpose. The mail order trade offers tested, proven and approved grilles for any budget, wherefore these types of DIY solutions can be avoided.
